Traditional French style is definitely not my cup of tea. Over processed gilding, heavy textiles, and all around over designed- poorly proportioned- rooms are just not my taste. That being said, when dialed (WAY) down, a classic French styled home can be beautiful.
This space, straight from the streets of Paris, is just that. An apartment that combines a classic French technique, but has fun with it. Instead of having the typical massive area rug, this home owner shows off the incredible hardwood floors by placing smaller area rugs throughout. And as an alternative to a heavy-on-the-eye built in, this owner used paint to play with the proportions and keep the space light and clean.
By keeping aspects of the home (somewhat) minimalist, the owner was able to achieve a classic french style by incorporating traditional furniture and textiles. Not to mention the architectural details of the space allude to that tradition just a simpler form. This playful twist on the traditional French space is something I can definitely get on board with. And did I mention that you can actually stay in this home the next time you feel the urge to walk up the Rue de la Pompe? Sign me up!
