Running with last weeks theme of artist I’m obsessed with, let’s talk all things Sheila Hicks.
Sheila Hicks is an American born artist who has carved out a career unlike anyone else. After developing her love of working with fibers in South America, Hicks went on to cultivate her craft at studios in Mexico, South Africa, India and Morocco. Now splitting her time between Paris and New York, Hicks creates woven sculptures featured in exhibitions around the world.
I was first exposed to her work at PMA during an installation of a client’s home. I was new and it was not my project, but I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to help install a small piece of the home. During which I was floored by a Sheila Hicks artwork. It was one of her woven tapestries that has bands and bands of vertically wrapped yarns varying in color throughout the piece. Vibrant, intricate, and extensive, you could so clearly see the endless hours spent to create this piece. I was in love.
From there I have found myself constantly referencing Hicks’ work when coming up with designs for PMA and have continued to follow her through her instagram (she’s a fun follow)
Enjoy!
